How MidiTabs works, what we collect, and your rights as a customer.

Terms of Service

About MidiTabs

MidiTabs is a macOS application for viewing, editing, and creating guitar tablature and standard notation. The app can connect to MIDI guitars and other MIDI devices, play back tabs, and export your work. Some features require a paid license or subscription.

License and use

When you purchase a plan or subscribe, we grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the paid features of the app on the number of Mac computers allowed by your plan. You may not share, resell, or redistribute your license key.

The free version of MidiTabs lets you import tabs, play them back, and use the interactive fretboard. Pro unlocks editing, saving, MIDI input, exports, and other features described on our pricing page.

  • Pro (annual): yearly subscription, up to two Macs at a time.
  • Pro (lifetime): one-time purchase, up to two Macs at a time.

Your content

Tabs, scores, and other material you create in MidiTabs belong to you. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to transcribe, arrange, or distribute any music you work with. MidiTabs does not claim ownership of your projects.

Sample tabs in our library are provided for personal practice and learning. They are not a license to republish or commercially exploit those songs.

Software updates

We may release updates to fix bugs, add features, or maintain compatibility with macOS. Update availability may depend on your plan and the version of the app you are running.

Availability and disclaimer

MidiTabs is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, perfect transcription accuracy, or compatibility with every MIDI device. We are not liable for lost work; please back up your files regularly.

Account and license termination

We may suspend or revoke a license if it is shared beyond allowed devices, obtained fraudulently, or used in violation of these terms. You may deactivate a Mac from your license through the app to free a seat for another computer.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of MidiTabs or our website after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.

Privacy Policy

Overview

We collect only what we need to sell licenses, deliver the app, support customers, and improve MidiTabs. We do not sell your personal information.

Information we collect

  • Email address: when you subscribe to our mailing list, request a free download link, or purchase a license. We use it to send license keys, receipts, product updates, and support replies.
  • License and device data: when you activate the app, we store your license key, a device identifier, your computer's system name as shown in macOS, and the app version. This lets us enforce seat limits and provide updates.
  • Payment information: purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and your email from Stripe, but we do not store your full card number on our servers.
  • Website analytics: we use Plausible Analytics on miditabs.com. It gives us aggregate traffic statistics without advertising cookies or cross-site tracking.
  • Support messages: if you email us at contact@miditabs.com, we keep that correspondence to help resolve your request.

Information we do not collect

  • Your tab files, MIDI performances, and project data stay on your Mac unless you choose to export or share them.
  • We do not record audio from your microphone unless a future feature explicitly asks for permission and explains why.
  • We do not build advertising profiles or sell mailing lists.

How we use your information

We use collected data to deliver license keys, validate activations, process refunds, send optional product emails, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and understand how the website is used.

Email list

If you subscribe on our website, we may send product news and Windows launch updates. You can unsubscribe by replying to any message from us and asking to be removed.

Data retention

We retain license and purchase records for as long as necessary to provide your plan, resolve billing inquiries, and comply with applicable law. If you unsubscribe from marketing emails, we stop sending promotional messages and record your opt-out preference. We may retain your email address on a suppression list so we do not contact you again unless you ask to resubscribe. You may also request permanent deletion of your email address from our mailing list by contacting us at contact@miditabs.com.

Third-party services

We rely on trusted providers including Stripe (payments), Supabase (license and subscriber storage), Resend (transactional email), and Plausible (website analytics). Each has its own privacy practices governing data they process on our behalf.

Your choices

You may request access to or deletion of personal data we hold about you by emailing contact@miditabs.com. We will respond within a reasonable time. Some records must be kept for billing, fraud prevention, or legal compliance.

Children

MidiTabs is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Refund Policy

We want you to be happy with MidiTabs. If the app is not working for you, contact us at contact@miditabs.com with the email used at checkout and a brief description of the issue.

Within 30 days of purchase

You may request a full refund within 30 days of your initial purchase or your first subscription charge. Stripe payment processing fees are non-refundable and will be deducted from the amount returned to you.

After 30 days

Refund requests made after 30 days are handled case by case. We may offer a partial refund based on the circumstances of your request. Stripe processing fees are deducted from any refund issued.

Subscriptions

If you subscribe annually, canceling stops future renewal charges. For subscription refunds, we can only refund the charge for your current active billing period. To cancel, use the billing link in your purchase email, Manage License in the app, or contact us and we will help.

How refunds are issued

Approved refunds are returned to your original payment method through Stripe. Please allow several business days for your bank or card issuer to post the credit. When a refund is processed, your license may be deactivated.
